Responsibility and Respect
Our sense of stewardship extends beyond the financial and internal management of the company. We see it as our responsibility to take care of the people, communities, and resources we enjoy and depend on. At Sanborn Head, we are committed to:
- The communities we serve
- Leadership in our industry
- Environmental stewardship
- Health and safety
- Our people
Community Involvement
We give back to the neighbors in our local communities through gifts of our time and other resources. We support our local chambers of commerce, as well as community and business organizations. In Concord NH, the home of our corporate headquarters, Sanborn Head has been a loyal supporter of the Concord Community Music School whose mission is to provide programs to a broad and diverse constituency including hundreds of needs-based children. We also support the Five Rivers Conservation Trust and its mission of land conservation in central New Hampshire. Recent staff-initiated events include walks/runs to benefit cancer research and donations of food and time to support local food banks. Outside of work, many of our people give back in areas they care about most, whether it be serving on town boards, coaching, volunteering with community non-profit organizations, or helping out with land use and conservation groups.
Professional Leadership
Sanborn Head recognizes a responsibility to meaningfully support the professional communities represented by our practice. We are actively involved in professional organizations that bring together clients, colleagues, and partners in support of advances and excellence in engineering and the geosciences. At the local level, we routinely host high school and college students for job-shadow days, and we are involved in regional professional societies. At the national level, we serve on committees of professional associations, present at conferences, and publish our work in professional journals. We also hold strong ties to academic institutions where some of the best ideas, technologies, and talent are being cultivated. We are proud to be a lead sponsor in the 2012 UNH Civil Engineering Alumni Conference. We are honored to be an Industrial Partner with the University Research Consortium for Field Focused Groundwater Contamination Research.
Environmental Stewardship
Sanborn Head embraces our responsibility to operate and serve our clients in a manner that protects the environment, preserves natural resources, and promotes sustainability in our business practices and services. We have developed an environmental stewardship program built on the vision articulated in our Corporate Environmental Policy and our belief that effective environmental management makes good business sense. We also invite you to review our first Progress Report on environmental stewardship initiatives. This report will be updated and issued annually.
Health and Safety
We are committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthful work environment for our people both in the office and on job sites. An effective health and safety program reinforces the standards of care we apply to our work. Sanborn Head has developed a comprehensive approach to health and safety including: required health and safety training, worksite analysis, and training on client-specific policies and requirements.
Professional Development for Our People
Sanborn Head upholds Continual Improvement as of one of the company’s Core Values, and we work hard to foster an atmosphere where learning, improvement, and excellence can flourish. Keeping current, challenging our thinking, and advancing new ideas help us create additional value for our clients. Sanborn Head supports the professional development of staff through formal training opportunities, less structured on-the-job activities, outside involvement in the professional community, and more personalized learning opportunities. Sanborn Head also has a wonderful tradition of an annual company meeting, in which the entire company gathers for a day to share technical presentations, hear about company initiatives, and learn from each other in a collegial and interactive setting.
