Vern Kokosa focuses his practice in the areas of geotechnical engineering, civil and solid waste engineering, administration of construction contracts, and construction quality control testing. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in seven states, with over 20 years experience. Vern's experience includes geotechnical engineering for deep pile foundations and slurry walls for multi-story buildings, interstate highways and bridges, treatment plants, pumping stations, retail shopping centers and dams. Vern has served as the geotechnical engineer of record on numerous earthwork projects by providing oversight of construction monitoring and testing during placement and compaction of engineered fill. He has been involved with several instrumentation projects with staged filling over soft soils, reinforced earth slopes and retaining walls, and forensic studies involving ground movement and wall failures. Vern has also completed environmental site characterization studies at state superfund sites; has prepared plans, specifications and contract documents for environmental remediation and handling of contaminated soil and groundwater as part of site redevelopment projects; and completed hydrogeologic studies with groundwater modeling to support the design of large-scale leaching fields for subsurface disposal of treated wastewater from schools and other institutional buildings.
