Springfield, Mass. — Sanborn Head’s geotechnical and environmental team of engineers and technicians attended the MGM Springfield topping off ceremony on March 29.  They were among the crowd that watched the final steel beam set in place on top of this much anticipated resort-style casino.

Sanborn Head has been instrumental in this mixed-use redevelopment that is expected to transform the South End area of Springfield.  The area was destroyed by a tornado in 2011, which left the City looking for ways to rebuild along with improving the local economy.  As the principal in charge of the site assessment and due diligence, Senior Vice President Tricia Pinto was pleased to be there during this major milestone.  “I’ve been working on this project since 2012, and it gives me a great sense of pride to see the structure reach its final height,” mentioned Pinto.  “I’m proud that we contributed to the integrity of the MGM structure and am certain that it will give the economic boost the community is looking for.”

Other Sanborn Head project team members in attendance included Laura Garvey, Alex Grochmal and Anton Zymin.  Garvey was the project manager and was happy to be at the celebration.  “It’s exciting to see the project at this stage,” said Garvey.  “Seeing the last beam being hoisted with an American Flag and a tree is a great tradition and I’m very grateful to have been part of the team that made the building a reality.”

It is anticipated that MGM Springfield will open in September 2018, attracting 8 million visitors annually.
